What is it? A collection of normal joint fluid in an abnormal spot.
What can I do? Treatment is really up to the patient. We can monitor, aspirate, or remove surgically.
What does it cause? Swelling and a bump under the skin, can be painful or not. Grows and shrinks with time.
Treatments & Options
Some patients elect to just leave their cyst alone, and this can work for some patients.
Aspiration +/- Injection
Some ganglion cysts can be aspirated (punctured with a needle and drained) and a medication injection can also be performed.
Surgical removal involves removing the ballooned tissue and fluid, tracing it back to the source, and techniques to decrease recurrence.
